Mary of Bethany and Mary Magdalene: Restoring the Truth through Scripture, Scholarship, and Spirit
For centuries, Mary Magdalene has been one of the most misrepresented figures in Christian history. In sermons, art, and tradition, she was recast as a prostitute, a sinner, or a marginal follower of Jesus. Yet when we look at Scripture, history, and the living witness of Spirit today, a very different picture emerges: Mary Magdalene was not a fallen woman, but a disciple, healer, and the first herald of the resurrection.
This journey of rediscovery began for me in a moment of profound mediumship. On a night that would change everything, I sat with world-renowned psychic medium Kenny Corris. Before we had even met that fateful evening. Kenny had chosen to wear a fragrance called 'Oud' a costly oil long associated with sacred rituals, reminiscent of the perfume Mary used to anoint Jesus. When we came together, the atmosphere shifted dramatically: lights flickered and went out, energy surged, and the presence of Spirit was undeniable.
In that sacred encounter, a revelation came through: A song was delivered from Spirit...
After researching, it lead to the discovery that Mary Magdalene and Mary of Bethany are the same woman, and she was never a prostitute. Instead, she was the disciple who, in faith and foresight, anointed Jesus for burial before anyone else understood what was coming. This insight resonated instantly with Scripture. The Gospel of John tells us that Mary of Bethany anointed Jesus (John 12:1–8), while Mary Magdalene is named at the cross and as the first witness of the resurrection (John 19–20). They never appear together, because they are one and the same.
From that night onward, my journey, alongside the enduring presence of my twin soul brother Darren John Chard, who now works powerfully from the spiritual realm, has been to set the record straight. Together with Kenny’s testimony and Darren’s confirmation through light, energy, and telepathic presence, we have sought to weave scholarship and Spirit into one voice.
Academic research shows that the later conflation of Mary Magdalene with the unnamed sinful woman of Luke 7 was not grounded in Scripture but originated with Pope Gregory the Great in 591 CE. His homily deliberately reshaped Mary into a penitent prostitute, diminishing her authority and suppressing women’s leadership in the early Church. By contrast, when we recover the original gospel witness, and listen to the Spirit speaking still today, we see her true role restored: Mary Magdalene, disciple, companion, and first apostle to the apostles.
This is why our work matters. Through papers, podcasts, and ongoing research, we are demonstrating that Mary’s misrepresentation was no accident, but a theological strategy that served patriarchal control. Restoring her identity is therefore more than a historical correction: it is a call to recognize the fullness of the gospel, the authority of women in the early Church, and the living presence of Spirit continuing to guide us now.
